Tafsir of Surah Al-Masad
Al-Masad condemns Abu Lahab's hostility to the Messenger and states that wealth and status cannot avert consequences.
Read Surah Al-Masad (5 verses) as a connected chapter: follow links between neighbouring verses and compare each passage with the wider Qur’anic context. The Arabic text and English and Urdu translations are rendered on this page before any commentary service loads. Use the source selector to compare available classical tafsir traditions; the Al-Mizan study guide is clearly marked as editorial notes, not a verbatim translation. If a remote commentary service is unavailable, the chapter text, translations, study introduction, and navigation remain available.
DOOMED are the hands of him of the glowing countence: and doomed is he!
What will his wealth avail him, and all that he has gained?
[In the life to come] he shall have to endure a fire fiercely glowing;
together with his wife, that carrier of evil tales,
[who bears] around her neck a rope of twisted strands!
